Late Summer

Being up past my bed time has a few advantages; for example tonight is one of the most beautiful of the entire summer. Perfect temperature, a quiet street, and plenty of time to contemplate Torts.

Good Excuse

Evening classes make for a long day, but they do provide a guilt-free reason to down cups of coffee going on six o'clock.

Go crutches and/or vices.

Centers

Man this weekend blew by. Thursday I had a chance to meet my classmates at the Constituion Center and take a pledge to uphold justice. I always feel a little silly sitting around chanting with a roomful of people, but I'm glad I went and did it. I feel like I'm very much in the right place.

I'd never been to the center so I snapped a few photos; it's a nice place:
(flags!)

(a sweet view of old city)
(a really big flag! But that's okay, it's ours)

And since I've had no time to cook, meet my best friend the Falafel.

(oh dear god I love Falafel)

Most of the weekend has been work, with the notable exception of saying goodbye to a co-worker who passed away before his time. I never knew him very well, but I still appreciated the chance to say goodbye - my gut instinct always told me he was a good guy, quiet, smart, soft-spoken, gentle, and friendly. He held a high position but never acted like a bully or flaunted his authority. From how full the church was, I could tell he lived a full and honorable life.

Alright, back to the books. Check out Baby M on Wikipedia, it's the case I'm studying right now and far from being dry and boring it's provocative and a defining moment of technology outpacing law.

Sticky

Ever have one of those days where you feel like you have something stuck on the bottom of your shoe, but everytime you look there's nothing there?

Me niether. Until today.

With Apologies

The Vegan Marathon is shut down while I reorganize my life and figure out how running fits with my scholastic schdule. The last week has been tumultous and life is only going to become more complicated from here.

My first night of law school went well. No vegan sandwiches though - so incredibly hungry. Off to attempt to my first brief, finish an essay, and fit in some reading. Good night and good luck.

The Encroaching Tsunami

Big but silent, the future is coming. School starts in less than a week now, but I was able to capture my last real weekend of freedom in style. Almost a week has lapsed since I wrote last - unintentional, but a natural by product of the vitality and spirit of the last few days. I didn't exercise as much as I should have, nor ate as well as I meant to, but who cares when a weekend can be summed up like this:

Friday B graced Philadelphia with his presence, beginning a whirlwind of chaos that, though we ran for the hills, we soon were absorbed into. A DINOSAUR IS EATING HIS HEAD!

Since it's better than listing, I'll let some of the photos do the talking this time around. In all honesty I'm wiped and don't have much of a mind to write on this particular night (but I wanted to get a post on the weekend up before bed). So above we have Friday. During the night, a delicious pizza was consumed. But I don't have a picture of that. So imagine the tastiest pizza you've had in a while, make it vegan, and join the program.

Saturday started out with The Best Breakfast Ever

(veggies for tofu scramble)

(tempeh bacon)

(fried potatos and coffee)

(pancakes!)

Then H was kind enough to show off her old stomping grounds at the Swarthmore campus, which well deserves its reputation as a beautiful and lush arboretum. A quick ride on the R3 brought us out to this:

Tired from hiking in the hot sun, the night wound down with Thai food from Vientien and beers from Dock Street. Talks were had into the night along with some guitar strumming and the watching of a terrific storm. A good time had, I believe, by all.

Sunday was used to laze about, avoiding the alternating heat and thunderstorms as best I could. Not too much to add except for the enjoyment of a good book and the luxury of a soft bed.

Monday was the company picnic - a hot sunny day perfect for lying by the pool, eating veggie burgers, and drinking some company bought beer. Monday night I spent meditating and writing more personal thoughts and stories, bracing myself mentally for the start of orientation next week. Life feels like it's doing its best to creep about and sneak up on me, but I've spotted it; I have your number future, you won't catch me by surprise.

And yawn. That's all there's been. I sweated out some of the indulgences of the weekend with a nice steady three mile run up a 3.5% incline on the treadmill. I felt thoroughly cleansed and rejuvenated. 3 miles isn't the distance I'm aiming for, but it's a start.
